AUSTRALIA finally found out who will be battling it out in the live House Rules Grand Final — and fans had mixed views on who made it.

In the popular reality TV renovation show, Victorian couple Adam and Lisa were named as first after their work guaranteed them a place in the final against WA grandparents Carole and Russell.

Candy and Ryan from NSW were eliminated from the House Rules race, after they failed to complete their kitchen.

The final couples were decided over a challenge where they had to transform a rundown holiday home on the NSW south coast used by Barnardos Australia foster families.

Adam and Lisa had the largest zone in the house to renovate including the dining room, main kids' bedroom, laundry, hallway, second toilet and deck.

When host Johanna Griggs announced Adam and Lisa were in the Grand Final, the couple couldn't believe it.

"Someone slap me," Adam said.

"I must be dreaming."

Judge Wendy Moore praised them for their miraculous turnaround.

"I said you guys could be the 'dark horses' of the competition if you got your vision right and stuck to it. You've proved me right," she said.

Lisa revealed earlier in the week it would be her dream to go up against Carole in the Grand Final.

"I think it would be a little like the Master versus the Apprentice," she said.

"And I think I've got it in me to beat her."

Carole described the final team match-up as being the "gen Y's versus the Geriatrics".

When Griggs told Russell and Carole they had made it, they both fell into each other's arms in relief.

"That was the longest 10 seconds of my life," Russell told Wendy.

But the episode wasn't without tears and hugs for Candy and Ryan, who left the show after they announced they had recently split from each other.

They had no regrets from being on the show.

"This is a competition where everybody wins," Ryan said.

"The whole experience has been amazing."

Viewers expressed their views on Twitter as the announcement was made they were leaving the show. Some agreed with the decision to eliminate them while others wanted them to stay.

The winner will walk away mortgage free and will be announced by host Johanna Griggs during Sunday night's finale.

The teams will return to their opponents' homes for one last renovation challenge.

The judges' scores will be combined with a public vote to determine the winner.

Home viewers will be asked to vote for the most deserving team based on their work throughout the competition.
