HELEN Smith put this dress on eBay made up of 24,000 loom bands. She expected to make about $90 profit on it. She couldn't quite believe how much it sold for.
Ms Smith's close friend Katherine Burnand spent 45 hours making the dress.
When the online auction finished yesterday a total of 137 people had bid on it with the winning bidder set to pay 170,000 pounds ($310,000) for it, plus 7 pounds postage and handling, for good measure.
Ms Smith, of Prestatyn, North Wales, put the dress online on July 8 for 50 pounds.
Ms Burnand spent three weeks on the venture, spending 45 pounds for 600 bands.
She said the money would be life changing for her and her family.
"We're not a rich family. I'm not complaining with what I have at all, but this could be a
great change in fortunes for us. These things never happen to people like us," she told Metro . "Five years ago my husband died and I lost my house and my business so I just want to enjoy it with my family and friends because life is too short and I know that from first hand."
"I think me and Helen are of the same ilk that until the money has registered in the bank we will be keeping our feet on the floor," she said. "If the money does come through I'll buy a car for my husband Conrad and help my two daughters financially."

Ms Smith says the pair will split the money 50-50 and that the women will take off on a little holiday once the money comes through.
"It's just going to be nice to that I have a bit of security for once and that I can pay the rent this week," she said. "I've had 866 messages which I'm plodding through slowly because I want to reply to all of them even if it's just a thank you to let them know I've read the message.
"I'm going to buy my son Peter a car and driving lessons and I'll stick some money to one side for my daughter until she's 18," she said.
Ms Burnard however does have a confession for the buyer.
"It's not actually very nice to wear because it's very heavy," she said. "All the plastic bands make it quite uncomfortable to wear too.
"My daughter tried it on. She's found it quite a struggle to get on because it's a small dress."
