A LEADING mental health expert has slammed a Chinese fashion designer who sent male models down the runway sporting black eyes and split lips.

Shangguan Zhe's label Sankuanz presented its Men's RTW Fall 2015 show at London's biannual men's fashion week, London Collections: Men, on Tuesday. Makeup artist Maria Comparetto created exaggerated bruises, black eyes and gashes on her young models in what she described as a "playful edge on fight club".

"We used obscure colours that you wouldn't usually see in bruising and made them more cartoon-like. It was bright, vibrant and fun but the guys were still pretty macho," Comparetto told Mail Online.

"The night before the show, I looked through the roster of models and decided which section of the face we would play up based on their features.

"So whether it was their forehead, lips, cheek or eyes, I told my team to take their time and make it look beautiful but hard at the same time," she said.

Earlier this week, Comparetto posted a photo of the beauty look on Instagram accompanied with the hashtag #beautifulbruises.

Aram Hosie from ReachOut Australia — a mental health support service for young people with a focus on domestic violence — says he is "appalled that commercial organisations, or designers in this case, would look to use violence to promote their brand and product.

The makeup is insensitive towards those who have experienced violence, Mr Hosie said.

"The last thing we want is for young people who may have been the victim of any kind of violence to think that what they have experienced is being trivialised or not treated seriously."
